When Did I Conceive — And Who Could the Father Be?

Found out you're pregnant and wondering when it happened—or maybe even who the father might be? While there’s no exact science to pinpoint the exact moment of conception, your body does follow patterns that can help narrow it down. Need quick, confidential help? What Date Did I Conceive?

Even if you're only a few weeks pregnant—or further along—there are ways to estimate when you likely conceived. One of the key pieces of info? The date your last period started.

Ovulation, the time when your body is most likely to become pregnant, usually happens about 14 days after your period begins. That fertile window typically lasts two to three days during each menstrual cycle.

If you remember the first day of your last period, you can count about two weeks forward to estimate when ovulation—and possibly conception—may have occurred.

There are also free online conception date calculators to make the math easier.

But remember, everybody is different. Some people ovulate earlier or later than average. Plus, sperm can live inside the female reproductive system for up to five days1, 2—which means having sex several days before ovulation could still lead to pregnancy.

Conception Date from Ultrasound

Yes—ultrasounds are another tool that can help estimate the date of conception. Since early fetal development follows a fairly predictable timeline, an ultrasound can help your provider estimate how far along you are with greater accuracy than a calendar alone.

Most OB/GYN clinics can schedule an ultrasound, but if you're looking for a no-cost option, we offer them for free—without insurance, billing, or long waits.
